Highlights in the Old City
History, tradition, art, culture, shopping and much more, all brought together within the relatively small area of Salzburg's historical district. Stroll through the city and discover your own favorite places! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to just a few of the sights:
Salzburg Cathedral and the DomQuartier
At the heart of the ensemble that makes up the Old City is Salzburg Cathedral, one of the city's most magnificent pieces of architecture, of course. In the DomQuartier you are able to experience first-hand the "baroque power - baroque splendor" of Salzburg under the prince archbishops! But aside from the cathedral, there are numerous other sacred buildings that are definitely worth a visit. For example, how about unassuming St. Michael's Church, the imposing Church of the Trinity, and St. Sebastian's Church with its cemetery that has a hint of Italy about it?
- Hohensalzburg Fortress
Enthroned high atop the Mönchsberg is the city's emblem, visible from far afield: Hohensalzburg Fortress.
Over 900 years old, it is the oldest fully preserved castle in Central Europe!
- Mozart Museums
In Mozart's Birthplace and Mozart's Residence, you can walk in the footsteps of the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his family.
Take a stroll down probably the most famous street in Salzburg. One house pressed tightly against the next, wrought-iron guild signs and unique "through-houses" connecting to other lanes and squares, all giving this street a charm that is quite unique.
- Schloss Hellbrunn & Trick Fountains
Schloss Hellbrunn was originally built as a "pleasure palace" for the prince archbishop. Today, the palace itself, the spacious grounds and, of course, the trick fountains - the like of which you find nowhere else - are a must-see during any visit to Salzburg.
And close to Schloss Hellbrunn, you will also discover Salzburg Zoo.
