HIGHLIGHTS IN THE OLD TOWN

It may be small, but Salzburg's Old Town is packed with history, tradition, art, culture, shopping and much more. Take a stroll through the city and discover your favourite spots! Here are just a few of the attractions Salzburg has to offer:

  • Salzburg Cathedral and the Cathedral Quarter
Salzburg Cathedral is one of the most magnificent buildings in the Old Town. You can experience the splendour of the Baroque era of the Prince Bishops in the Cathedral Quarter! Next to the cathedral, there is a host of other sacred buildings that are well worth a visit, such as the unassuming St Michael's Church, the imposing Church of the Holy Trinity, or St Sebastian’s Church, with its Italian-style graveyard.

  • Hohensalzburg Fortress

High up on the Mönchsberg, an unmissable landmark keeps watch over the city centre: Hohensalzburg Fortress. Built over 900 years ago, it is the oldest fully preserved castle in Central Europe!

  • Mozart museums

In Mozart’s birthplace and the Mozart Residence, you can trace the life of the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his family.

  • Getreidegasse

Take a stroll along the most famous street in Salzburg. Its densely packed houses, wrought-iron shop signs and unique passages leading to other squares and streets lend the street its distinctive charm.

  • Hellbrunn Palace & trick fountains

Hellbrunn Palace was originally built as a summer residence for the Prince Bishops. Today, the palace itself, its expansive grounds and, of course, its unique trick fountains, are a must-see for all visitors to Salzburg. Salzburg Zoo is right next to Hellbrunn Palace.
